Allow your body to heal itself

Instructions

  1. Acknowledge your suffering.
The first step is always to acknowledge your suffering, and this doesn’t have to be a negative thing. Be honest with yourself and recognize the truth of your entire life. Think about the things that have hurt you in the past and how they are still affecting you now.
  2. Listen to your body.
The body sends clear messages to us about our feelings. Gut feelings are a very literal thing, and the gut has been described as a second brain because it has a level of awareness. So, when you notice changes in your body, like gut feelings, anxieties, or tension in the muscles, don’t ignore it or try to change it. Instead, sit with it and consider where it is coming from. What is making you feel tense? Is the situation bringing up unresolved emotions from the past? When have you felt like this before?
  3. Accept the past.
By acknowledging your suffering and listening to your body's messages, you are no longer hiding from the past or the parts of yourself you shut off from. Embracing them gives you a clearer understanding of where your trauma comes from, meaning that you can let it go. Know that you don’t have to hold onto the past. This doesn’t mean forgetting it; it just means learning to live with it and accepting that it is part of you, even if it is negative.
  4. Understand that healing is a continuous journey.
Finally, you must develop the understanding that healing is not a destination but a journey. There is no "cure" that will heal everything right away. The body and mind are always evolving as you have new experiences, and the healing journey helps you deal with those experiences. Trying to focus on an endpoint gets in the way of your healing journey.
