Designing Your Life
Happiness
Choose your life’s design
from Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Life by Bill Burnett, Dave Evans
How to Apply This
- Gather and create your options
Use your Workview, Lifeview, mind maps, Odyssey Plans, and prototype conversations and experiences from previous chapters to generate as many ideas and alternatives as possible. - Narrow down your list of ideas and alternatives
If you feel you don’t have enough ideas, go back to Step 1 and build up a list of options you really like. If you have too many ideas, group them into categories to break down your list into sub-lists. Then select the best option in each sub-list to create your short-list of options. If your list is still long, repeat this process until you end up with a maximum of 5 ideas. - Choose from your short-list
Use your gut feeling or intuition to identify the best option. Follow your heart. You can use meditation, yoga, journaling, prayer, or other spiritual practices to strengthen your innate ways of knowing and discernment. - Let go and move on
Once you’ve settled on an option or idea, move forward with it with no regrets. Ignore all the other options, focus on your preferred choice, and take action on it.
