Avoid overstimulating your interactions
Even though we might be inclined to bombard someone with phone calls or texts when we don’t get an immediate response, we need to learn how to avoid doing that. Not getting an answer is still an answer. -
Give more than three chances.
If you don’t want to cut people out of your life because they are not as reliable as you, give them delayed chances. If they cancel at the last minute, reschedule for next week. If they continue, reschedule after two weeks, then four, and so on. -
Respect boundaries.
When you want to get in touch with someone, see to what they respond (phone calls or texts) and see how often they are willing to communicate. Once you reach a dead-end, you need to give it a break.
