Your Money or Your Life
General money management
Design your finances around fulfillment, alignment, and life purpose
from Your Money or Your Life by Joe Dominguez, Vicki Robin
How to Apply This
- Expand your monthly income and spending table.
Create three columns more in your income and spending table labeled “Fulfillment,” “Alignment,” and “Financial Independence (FI).” - Evaluate whether each spending category fulfills you.
Look over each expense category and evaluate whether you received fulfillment, satisfaction, and value in each. Mark “+” if yes, and “-” if no under the “Fulfillment” tab. - Ask yourself if the life energy spent aligns with your values and life purpose.
Mark each category with a “+” (if yes) or “-” (if no) under the “Alignment” tab. - Determine how much each expense might change if you didn’t have to work for a living.
Would you still have to pay for that expense, or would it decrease drastically? Write down the amount you would have to pay if you didn’t have to work. - Make a list of the subcategories with a minus symbol next to it.
These subcategories are eating away at your life energy and level of life satisfaction.
