Gain respect by acting like a team player and being transparent with your ideas

Instructions

  1. Find small ways of gaining respect before proposing changes to the status quo
Earn status by proving that you’re interested in advancing the organization’s mission. Contribute to discussions on how to advance the organization and volunteer as much as possible. As you gain status and influence, you’ll also gain latitude to challenge the status quo.

  2. Start your presentations by highlighting the flaws in your idea
When you’re presenting an idea to investors, start the presentation by discussing the flaws in your idea before moving on to its benefits. This will make the investors feel like they have a problem to solve rather than an idea to buy into.

  3. If presenting an idea to a superior at work, allow for a delay between your initial presentation and a follow up
For example, start with a short elevator pitch on Wednesday, revisit the issue the next Monday, and then ask for feedback on Friday. Give the idea time to sink in.

  4. Communicate your ideas repeatedly until they feel less threatening to those who support the status quo.
If you want to bring about social change in your community, start a blog and share your ideas daily. Keep your blogs short to ensure people read them. Also, mix in other unrelated ideas to maintain your audience’s curiosity.
