Get rid of the specific behaviors and prompts that contribute to unwanted habits.

from Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything by B.J. Fogg

How to Apply This

  1. Write down a habit you no longer want, and be general.
For example, the habit could be “Eating junk food.’

  2. Write down at least ten specific habits that contribute to this habit, and be specific.
For example, you could write, ‘Picking up a donut when I buy coffee’, ‘Having three pieces of pizza for lunch’, ‘Grabbing breakfast at the gas station’, etc.

  3. Pick two or three of the easiest specific habits to resolve
This will help you practise and build your skills so you can approach real-world problems with more confidence.

  4. Remove one of the prompts for this habit for at least one day.
For example, you could make coffee at home so you don’t end up getting a donut too.
