Help a Child state let go of games that aren’t serving them

Instructions

  1. Be on the lookout for ego states.
If a friend comes to you with a problem or behaves spontaneously, analyze their ego state. Is their Adult looking for a conversation, or is the Child looking for a Parent to comfort them?
  2. Figure out what the Child needs from you.
If a friend is telling you about their problems but is refusing your advice, you can infer that the Child isn’t looking for a solution. Instead, they just want you to act like a Parent every time they have a new issue.
  3. Help a Child help themselves.
Instead of playing the game by offering advice and solutions, ask the Child what they think they should do. Your friend will begin to use their Adult state to find a solution, ending their usual game.
