Implement boundaries
from Try Softer: A Fresh Approach to Move Us out of Anxiety, Stress, and Survival Mode--and into a Life of Connection and Joy by Aundi Kolber
How to Apply This
-
Practice setting boundaries with someone you feel comfortable with.
You can practice with your therapist, friend, or spouse. -
Create a script.
If you find it difficult to set boundaries in a certain area, create a script for it. For example, if you cannot say no to someone’s insistence, say phrases like “Let me think on that” or “Let me look at my schedule” to buy yourself some time to think. -
Notice when people don’t respect your boundaries.
For instance, if people purposefully make you feel guilty about your choices, consider spending less time with them. If someone keeps violating your boundaries, be straightforward and tell them to stop.
