Incorporate strategies to stay present
Instructions
- Observe your inner and outer states to get back in the present.
Pause for a moment, sit there and observe your thoughts, emotions, body, and the outside world for a few minutes. Observe ten things around you. Afterward, take a deep breath and count to 10 before diving into the world again. - Create a “Positive events journal.”
Make it a habit to write down the good things and events that are happening to you at the moment. This will help you become more aware of the goodness around you that you usually miss. - Spend some “me” time.
Schedule a time when you can be silent alone in a comfortable place. Stay away from distractions and work that may disturb you. Feel the peace that comes with silence. - Limit your social media consumption.
Dedicate only 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes at night to scroll through social media. This will help you stay present throughout the day. - Have a totem.
Create or get a totem that reminds you to stay present whenever you feel overwhelmed by thoughts about your past and future. Hold this totem in your hand for a few moments until your thoughts disappear. - Stop comparing yourself to others.
Instead of comparing yourself to someone who you consider is doing better than you in some way, think about all the gifts you possess and how much you have instead. Strive to be a better version of yourself rather than be someone else. - Love yourself.
Have a journal where you write down positive and commendable things about yourself. What are you proud of? What are the compliments you’ve received from others? Write them done and visit your journey every time you feel you’re not good enough. - Follow the golden rule.
Treat others how you’d like to be treated! Be kind and helpful to all people you meet with. You may do this by calling someone when they’re feeling bad, giving to the homeless, or doing other acts of service.
