Intentionally create positive moments in your life
Instructions
-
Boost the sensory appeal of the experience
Take an experience and make it look, feel, taste, or sound better than it does. For example, if you’re a hotel manager, offer your customers a hotline that allows them to request free popsicles of any flavor. Then have the treats delivered on a silver tray by a white-gloved waiter. This will be more memorable than placing a self-service freezer in the hallway. -
Raise the stakes of the experience
Add an element of productive pressure to a normal event. For example, take a regular class debate and hold it in an auditorium in front of the whole school. Invite the principal, parents, and some school alumni to watch. This added pressure will make the experience more memorable for the students as they’ll work harder to put on a good show. -
Defy the script by randomly exceeding people’s expectations
Give your regular customers a free item with their order now and then. Let your employees be spontaneous with these random gifts rather than making the freebies a strict rule. For example, tell your employees to give away only a specific number of free items per week to any customer they like.
