Learn as many different skills as possible in one practice session
Instructions
-
Practice interleaved learning
For example, if you’re learning how to play hockey, cycle through the various skills required i.e. skating skills, shooting, puck handling, and stick handling. Instead of spending days learning stick handling and then moving on to shooting practice, spend a few minutes on stick handling, then a few minutes on shooting practice, and then the next skill, and so on. Mix up your practice session instead of mastering only one skill at a time. -
Vary the topics that you’re learning at any given time
For example, if you’re taking a math course, quiz yourself with questions from diverse chapters of the textbook instead of quizzing yourself about one chapter and then moving to the next. If you’re studying a new computer program, take a look at other similar computer programs as well as those that are different from what you’re learning. Varied learning improves your ability to assess and adjust to changing conditions.
