Learn to accept things as they are
Instructions
- Notice when you are resisting.
If something bad happens, do you start thinking about what could have been or get stressed about the situation? If you do, you are resisting instead of accepting. - Practice acceptance.
When you notice that you are resisting, stop thinking about alternatives or what you could have done differently and just be with it. Say to yourself, “This is the truth of the situation, and I cannot change it.” - Be present.
Learning to be more present helps with acceptance. If you are constantly thinking about the future or the past, you are less accepting of the present. Practicing things like meditation or breathing exercises can help with this, but you should also consciously notice the world around you. For example, if you feel that you are not very present, take a breath and look at five things around you. This simple act brings you back to the present moment.
