Learn to handle adversity
Instructions
- Focus on the right things.
During a crisis, identify the things you can physically influence and those you cannot. Then spend your energy on fixing the issues you can control and let everything else go. - Understand and embrace the worst-case scenario.
Ask yourself a series of questions that will help you realize the worst-case scenario. For example, ask yourself: Now that this situation has occurred, what should we be concerned about? How will this crisis impact our customers? What’s the worst-case scenario moving forward? Will this be a big deal in a week/month/year? What permanent impact will this have on the organization? This will help you put the situation in perspective and dispel any fears you may have. - Listen to your body signals to enhance your self-awareness.
When you feel yourself getting angry when under pressure, calm yourself by taking deep, slow breaths. This moves you from flight or flight mode into a more relaxed state.
