Optimize your social media accounts

Optimize your Facebook account.
The number of comments and the kind of stuff you put on Facebook determine how many people will see your posts. This concept is called ‘’EdgeRank,’’ and Facebook uses it because they don’t want people to be bombed with posts. Here are a few tips:
- Use Facebook’s Page Insights to find out more about your followers and what they prefer to see.
- Share and comment on other pages from your Facebook page to raise its visibility.
- Embed videos because they play instantly and can be very catchy.
- Link your Facebook and Instagram accounts to promote your posts.
- Include graphics and experiment with what works best for you because there’s no real recipe for Facebook posts. -
Maximize Google+.
- Start a Google+ community only if you are committed enough because it takes a lot of time and effort to manage one over a certain period.
- Learn how Google+ reads your posts.
- Enter a comment on the most popular stories in Google News that deal with real-time coverage so more people will see you.
- Run polls by enabling people to ’’+1’’ comments. Create a question and instruct people to +1 the comment that matches their answer. Add each possible response as a separate comment. Turn off commenting; save some time.
- Use Google+ Ripples to see who reshared your posts.
- Utilize Replies and More to reply to someone and trigger a notification to them without typing ’’@’’ and the person’s name.
- Embed a Google+ profile badge in your blog/website to promote your Google+ page.
- Be creative with your text. Add an asterisk on each side to Bold it. (*your text*). Underscore on each side: _your text_ to make it Italics. Hyphen on each side: -your text- to make it Strikethrough.
- Link a Google+ stream with a YouTube channel to broadcast your HOA. Comment on a YouTube video so that the video and the comment appear in your Google+ stream. Your followers can see the video again, adding content to the Google+ stream.
- Use the Hashtag of the day (#ScienceSunday, for example); more people will probably read it because they subscribe to certain blogs. -
Strengthen your Instagram account.
Add an interesting photo with a few hashtags and 5-10 word-catchy captions. Then, include a few relevant hashtags in your post for visibility purposes. You can also use filters such as Normal, Valencia, Earlybird, and X-Pro II. Processing an image is important because you don’t want your pictures to be lousy. Once you have your Instagram post ready, share it on Twitter. Finally, add diversity by creating collages using Color Splash or Diptic. -
Optimize LinkedIn.
To acquire new connections, start by sending a personalized connection request. When publishing a post, remember to share something serious and adequate as employers may look at it in the future. It’s best to also focus on a few-core topics niche, where you are good at. Then, add links to your Hangouts on Air and video interviews. You can also share your SlideShare presentations. -
Use Pinterest properly.
Maximize the use of boards according to your needs; you can use secret boards to work on private projects while collaborative boards to reach others’ followers. Once you have your boards ready, include helpful keywords and descriptions so people can easily find you. Then, pin the most popular Pinterest board at the top of your profile. It’s best to also share your pins on other social media platforms. As always, keep your cover photo fresh and innovative. Remember not to share personal photos unless you’re a modern guru or famous blogger. -
Maximize the use of SlideShare.
SlideShare is a self-explanatory text without sound. An important thing to remember is that its title page should be memorable and relevant. To maximize it, turn your blog posts into a SlideShare presentation. Make sure to include: a relevant and interesting title, a summary of your presentation (3,000 characters max), subject matter, and tags to increase visibility. Then, use the last slide to invite people to follow you on your social media accounts. Finally, embed your presentation on LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Twitter. Don’t do it on Facebook and Google+ because they don’t look that good. -
Improve your Twitter account.
To increase engagement on Twitter, make sure to: include graphics in your tweets (four pictures max.), tag people (10 max) per picture, repeat tweets, address tweets by mentioning people, activate notifications, and opt to receive emails when people retweet your tweets, and you gain new followers. -
Optimize your YouTube channel.
Before posting anything on your channel, complete your profile first – include keywords and a posting schedule, so they know what to expect. It’s also better to post a short channel trailer first to serve as a “welcome” post for your profile visitors. Remember to add a 3-4 seconds intro and outro in each video. You should also include keywords and descriptions so people can easily find them. Once your videos are ready, organize them and respond to comments regularly.
