Practice self-control every day
Instructions
- Do not be influenced by another person’s negative thinking.
We all encounter cynical and negative people who will tell us that we can’t reach our goals. Part of showing self-control is not allowing yourself to be influenced by these people. Be confident in your goals and your own ability; don’t let other people derail you with their negative thinking. - Control your enthusiasm, not the other way around.
Enthusiasm translates to action, which can bring about success. However, when enthusiasm is left unchecked, it can turn into impulsive behavior that works against your goals. So, always keep your enthusiasm under control and direct it rather than allowing it to control you. For example, when you feel energetic and positive, sit down, plan some productive tasks you can do, and direct that energy correctly. - Never slander others or seek revenge.
People who lack self-control often lash out at others by slandering them or seeking revenge against those who have wronged them. But you have nothing to gain from this, and it is a poor use of your energy. So, you must let go of these resentments and avoid seeking revenge or slandering people. - Do not hate those who disagree with you.
Do not allow yourself to have an emotional response when people disagree with you. Instead of hating them and lashing out, think about why they disagree. Considering their reasons helps you learn more about them and look at issues from a different perspective. Approach it in this way, and you will benefit from the disagreement. - Do not form opinions without all of the facts.
Making snap judgments without understanding all of the facts is a common trait in people who lack self-control. You must avoid this, and whenever you are making decisions and forming opinions, always take the time to research and get all of the facts first.
