Practice the four main principles of living purposefully
Instructions
- Take conscious responsibility for your goals and purposes.
Take the time to understand what you want and where you want to go in life. Ask yourself: What do I want to achieve in 5, 10, or 20 years? What do I want to achieve in my personal relationships? What do I want to accomplish in my career? Why do I want to get married? What are my goals with my children? What are my spiritual goals? - Identify the steps necessary to accomplish your goals.
Take responsibility for mapping out your actions to attain your purpose. Ask yourself: How do I get to my destination? What steps should I take? What sub-purposes must I accomplish on my journey to my ultimate purpose? How can I acquire new knowledge and resources to get me there? - Monitor your behavior to ensure you stay in alignment with your goals.
Consciously track your actions relative to your stated purpose. For example, keep revisiting your original intentions regularly to see whether you’re still dedicated to them. Frequently read through your goals and reprioritize them accordingly. You can also reformulate your purpose to suit your current reality. - Pay attention to your outcomes to know whether you’re on the right track.
As you’re moving toward your goals, keep asking: Are my strategies working? Are my tactics generating the results I need? Are my strategies relevant to today’s conditions? - Use sentence completions to deepen your understanding of purposeful living.
Complete the following sentences: “Living purposefully to me means.....” “If I am 5% more purposeful today in my work/marriage/communication/friendships.....” “If I am 5% more purposeful in catering to my deepest needs.....” “If any of what I’ve written is true, it would be helpful if I.....”
