Recognize the individuals in your team
Instructions
-
Acknowledge each of your team members as an individual with unique life experience
Each person has something of their own to contribute. Acknowledging this inherent uniqueness will allow you to understand them (and their needs) better. -
Reassess your internal biases
Some of our beliefs slip by unnoticed. Reflect on your perception of each team member. Are these rooted in beliefs you have learned, or are they the objective truth? -
Nurture each member’s innate abilities
People often have abilities they’re unaware of. Enable them to exercise their latent talents so they can get better at them. -
Provide a level playing field: focus on equity, not equality
Luck determines much of life, but there are things we can do to mitigate bad luck. Some of your team members may be disadvantaged in life, keeping them from accessing their full potential. Think about the big-picture factors impacting your team members - what did they miss out on learning in life? What sort of adjustments do they need to thrive?
