Reduce the diminishing impact you may be having on your team
Instructions
-
Ask for honest feedback.
Ask your team questions like: “How might I be shutting down the ideas and actions of others?”, “What am I inadvertently doing that might be having a diminishing impact on others?” and “What could I do differently?” These questions elicit good feedback that’ll help you identify your blind spots. -
Lead with intention.
After identifying your blind spots, work with your team to develop a set of signals and workarounds. These include abiding by a simple rule of thumb like Waiting 24 hours before replying to emails if you want others to respond. Or creating a filter like If you don’t want anyone to take action on an idea, then don’t share it yet. -
Do less and challenge more.
When you feel the need to be big, let it be a signal that you need to be small and dispense your views in small but intense doses. Also, when your instincts tell you to help more, you might need to help less.
