Split your day into small blocks of time
from Peak Performance: Elevate Your Game, Avoid Burnout, and Thrive with the New Science of Success by Brad Stulberg, Steve Magness
How to Apply This
-
Divide work into blocks.
Estimate how long your tasks will take and break all of your work for the day into blocks. Between 50-90 minutes is good, but this will vary depending on the tasks. Break large tasks down into separate stages and estimate the time for these blocks. -
Split the day into blocks of time.
Now, split the day into blocks of time and fit your tasks into each block. When you first start using this method, you can begin with blocks of 10-15 minutes on a task before changing. As you improve your focus, you can extend the length of each block. But make sure not to exceed two hours per block. -
Be aware of your own attention span.
Consider your attention span and be aware when you are losing focus. If this is often happening, you should reduce the size of the blocks and spend less time on each task.
