Stop procrastinating.
Procrastination is one of the biggest hurdles in the path to success. The next time you find yourself procrastinating a task, follow the above steps.
Instructions
-
Do something about the task you are procrastinating right now.
You can only complete a task if you start on it, so get active and do something about the task you need to complete right now. Send out that email, make that call, book that gig—whatever it is, go do it! -
Identify your most common procrastination triggers and try to avoid them.
When do you begin to procrastinate a task? Is it when you have to make phone calls, do research, draw up a financial plan, commit, etc.? Do your best to avoid these triggers while you are working on your task. For example, if you realize that having to make phone calls triggers you to procrastinate and spend hours on the internet, go to a park where you can’t get online, and make those calls. -
Make a bet that you will complete the task with someone who will hold you to it.
Bet something that’s painful to lose, but not too unrealistic. This will motivate you to complete the task. -
Allow yourself some fun too.
Sometimes, procrastination is unavoidable. If this is the case, allow yourself some time to procrastinate in a fun manner so you can come back with a clearer head. Go to the beach, have a drink, and then come back and complete your task.
