Withstand criticism.
from Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead by Sheryl Sandberg, Nell Scovell
Allowing yourself to react and then moving on is the healthiest way to deal with criticism. Instead of suppressing emotion (which will lead to it exploding sooner or later), you are processing the situation and letting go of it.
How to Apply This
-
When criticized, allow yourself to feel emotion, then move on.
Criticism is unavoidable, and it’s impossible to not react at all. Allow yourself to feel any emotion you might have—anger, sadness, frustration, etc. Then, move on. Do not dwell on it; simply continue on with your life. Do not allow the comments to derail your self-confidence. -
Take comfort in the fact that you are not alone in this.
Everyone faces criticism! These attacks are not personal; they are directed at all working women who have reached a place of seniority in the workplace.
